TWO POP-UP DOG PARKS ARE SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN SPRING 2024

Staff will begin evaluating the performance of these pop-up amenities and make a recommendation for a permanent dog park. The community is encouraged to leave feedback via the questionnaire.

Purpose:

The pop-up dog parks are in response to growing demand for dedicated, accessible spaces for pets (and their owners) to get exercise and socialize with others. In 2023, the City introduced its first pop-up dog park at Luke McRedmond Park in Downtown Redmond. The pop-up dog park was a response to the growing population in our downtown as a commitment to provide special spaces that meet our urbanizing community's needs. Feedback from the community was collected and Hartman Park was selected to be the second location for a pop-up dog park. These temporary spaces will allow the City to test different locations and needs for a more permanent off-leash dog area in the City.

Background:

During the 2022 budget process, dog parks were identified by the Redmond community as a high priority need. Redmond Parks and Recreation temporarily opened an off-leash dog area at Luke McRedmond Park in 2023.

Staff and the community evaluated potential sites in the Downtown for its first pop-up dog park. The Downtown neighborhood was seen as having the highest need in the City. Staff evaluated numerous sites in Downtown and asked for community feedback on the sites in Summer of 2022 Luke McRedmond Park was selected for its proximity to housing, parking, bus routes, and trails as well as it's large, unprogrammed lawn area.

Based on the feedback from the community that was collected from the Luke McRedmond pop-up dog park questionnaire and Derby Days, a second location was determined to be at Hartman Park.

The off-leash areas will be fenced, have a small and large dog area, and receive regular maintenance and trash pickup.

Issues with the pop-up dog park can be reported using the City's Q-Alert system, and feedback on this and future off-leash areas can be provided in the questionnaire below.
