Redmond’s Utilities—Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, and Solid Waste—provide essential City services that maintain Redmond’s infrastructure, protect our natural environment, and respond to customer service needs. Together, the Utilities deliver clean drinking water, provide reliable wastewater and waste management, and protect and restore local lakes, creeks, and the Sammamish River to Redmond.
In 2019, the City published a draft Utilities Strategic Framework. It described a shared Mission, Objectives, and key Strategies to guide the Utilities’ work to 2050. The Utilities continue to build out this plan and seek the community’s input on next steps needed to guide this work.

Redmond Utilities Working for you (2019 Snapshot):
Water:
35-40% of Redmond’s drinking water comes from Redmond groundwater wells.
Pumped over one billion gallons of water from City wells.
Tested the water supply weekly at 26 locations throughout the City’s distribution system.
Supplied water to more than 45,000 metered customers.
Wastewater:
Actively maintained more than 230 miles of pipes and 30+ wastewater lift stations.
Solid Waste:
Engaged 200+ businesses and multifamily complexes in a commercial composting program. This includes 12 schools, Redmond Town Center, 35 apartment and condo complexes, a senior living community, the farmer’s market, a food bank and City facilities.
Diverted 47% of waste generated during 2019 Derby Days, meaning nearly half of the waste from the event was either recycled or composted.
Collected 114tons of recyclable materials at City-sponsored recycling events.
Organized programs that diverted more than 68 tons of food waste from multi-family residential buildings and 280 tons of food waste from commercial properties in 2019.
Stormwater &Surface Water:
Maintained 323+ miles of City-owned pipes, 11,000+ catch basins, and 400+ stormwater ponds, vaults, and other stormwater facilities.
Protected and restored more than 50 miles of streams, two major creeks (Bear and Evans), the Sammamish River, and Lake Sammamish. Chinook, sockeye, coho salmon and other native fish and wildlife call Redmond home.
