Redmond Fire is proposing an increase in fire impact fees for 2027 based on the findings of the City’s Fire Facilities Impact Fee Study completed in 2026.

Impact fees are one-time charges collected by the City from new commercial and residential developments to fund fire, park, school, and transportation facilities needed to accommodate growth, and they are authorized by Redmond Municipal Code (RMC 3.10), Washington State Law (RCW 82.02), and the Growth Management Act.

The City periodically reviews and updates its impact fees to ensure they reflect the true demand created by new development. This update is not a routine annual indexing. Instead, it is a comprehensive recalculation based on new data, including:

  • Updated calls‑for‑service analysis by land‑use type

  • Current and forecasted development estimates through 2050

  • Updated capital facility and apparatus needs identified in the Redmond Fire Department Functional Plan

  • Revised state law requiring residential impact fees to scale by unit size

These updated fees ensure that new development contributes its proportionate share of the cost of facilities and equipment needed to support Redmond’s growing community.

Redmond City Council is scheduled to vote on updated impact fees later this year. Pending Council approval, the new fee schedule will take effect on Jan. 1, 2027.
