Implementing Universal Design - Policy and Code Updates Roundtable

Join us for a roundtable discussion between community planners and universal design and accessibility industry experts from throughout the Puget Sound region. This event offers an opportunity for sharing of information and ideas using a series of questions and open discussion opportunities on how we can improve equity in our built environment through municipal policy and code updates.

A follow-up event will be scheduled after the first of the year to continue discussions and networking opportunities.  The goal of these conversations is to identify opportunities for change, both near and long term, with specific code and policy examples and recommendations, that will have a measurable outcome on making the design and construction of our communities more inclusive.

Working Together for a More Welcoming and Inclusive Community!

Join us for a community dinner, conversation, art, and other activities to help identify ways we can change our spaces and places to create a city that is inclusive and welcoming for all. Community members of all ages and abilities are welcome, as well as small and minority owned businesses, community organizations, and service providers.

Some of the questions we will explore during this community event include:

• What would make you feel more welcome, comfortable, safe, and included in Redmond?
• What are things in our spaces and places we should change or add to be more inclusive? 
  • How can we physically represent our cultural diversity in how we build our city?
  • How can it become more accessible to community members with disabilities?
• What could be designed differently to enhance belonging, independence, and community connections and pride?

Second Public Hearing Date on August 25

A Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, August 25 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Redmond City Hall. Community members may also choose to join and comment virtually.  

A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) has been prepared to review three growth alternatives that were created to guide community discussion on options and opportunities.

In addition to an areawide analysis, the DEIS provides detailed environmental review for areas of focus, including growth in our centers and near light rail stations. The City also anticipates a Planned Action Update for Overlake under RCW 43.21C.440 and SEPA infill exemptions (RCW 43.21C.229) for Downtown and Marymoor where transit-oriented development is proposed.

A second public hearing has been scheduled to allow for additional public comment that will be used to develop a preferred alternative.

August 17 Virtual Community Workshop

Attend this virtual workshop to help decide where housing and job growth should go and share you priorities for the future of Redmond.

The City of Redmond is updating its Comprehensive Plan to plan for growth through 2050. The updated plan will refine the community vision, values, and objectives considering key themes of equity and inclusion, sustainability, and resiliency.

Based on what we heard from the community throughout 2020 and 2021, three alternatives for how we can accommodate the growth anticipated for our community between now and 2050 have been created and studied for impacts to the built and natural environment. This workshop will review and get community feedback on options studied.
