Project Background

The 2020-2021 phase of the Redmond Zoning Code Rewrite (RZCRW) involves a "foundational" update to the code. Work will focus on streamlining the City’s Zoning Code, strengthening its foundation in support of affordable housing, improving its clarity and conciseness, and enhancing economic development opportunities and flexibility. In response to the City's long-term recovery from COVID-19, this phase also provides a few amendments supporting the City's economic conditions.

This work is part of a multi-year plan to rewrite the Redmond's Zoning Code. Additional phases will continue to establish a clear and concise code and to coordinate with other City actions including the Housing Action Plan, Comprehensive Plan periodic update (2050), and a periodic update to the Transportation Master Plan.

This process is being facilitated by City staff using a methodical approach to implement small changes throughout the longer-term project lifecycle.

Additional work is underway to improve the Code's use of definitions and to establish a consistent, predictable code maintenance plan.
